Hospital Patients Stay Updated on Health with Interactive System

With Our Lady of the Lake’s new interactive television system, Get Well Network, patient education and connectivity are the goals. Get Well Network allows patients access to specific resources that help them learn more about their condition, treatment plan, care team, hospital services and discharge instructions. Through the network, patients can also contact caregivers directly to provide feedback about their care. These enhanced communication features enable hospital staff to immediately respond to patients’ needs for an improved patient and family experience. The bedside system also gives patients access to free on-demand movies, video games, music, internet and email – communication tools that help patients feel more connected and comfortable during their hospital stay. OLOL is the only hospital using this interactive tool.

Protect the Skin You're In

New Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group Board Certified dermatologist Laci Theunissen knows all about the temptation to get a tan – and its negative effects. She stresses the importance of wearing sunscreen not just in the summer, but every day. Dr. Theunissen, whose Dermatology at Bocage clinic opens in July, advises adults to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day, wear broad brimmed hats, and focus on easy-to-forget spots like ears, women’s chests, and hands. She says it’s “vitally important to protect children with sunscreen and hats,” especially since 80% of sun exposure occurs during childhood. Dr. Theunissen recommends considering clothes with SPF or using a laundry detergent with SPF. She advises keeping kids out of the sun between 10 am and 4 pm as much as possible. Realizing the challenges, particularly in the summer, she emphasizes the importance of applying and reapplying sunscreen before and after pool time.

Dr. Theunissen offers care for the whole family, as well as a variety of office cosmetic procedures and skin care products, and is now accepting new patients. Meet Dr. Theunissen, or make an appointment by calling (225) 214-3199.
